I am always reading articles on how to get back with your ex, and it always amazes to see the crazy advice that so called experts are giving out to people. Is it so hard for people to identify the problems in their relationships and figure out a way to fix them?

After reading so much tosh recently I thought I would share some of my general musings with you on the subject, so here it goes…

Obviously it is! Otherwise people would not be experts in giving out advice on how to get your ex back. Now for me, it’s simple; you need to stay true to yourself and act in a way that you feel comfortable with. It is no use trying all of these tricks and games to make him or her feel jealous and all that sort of thing if you would not do that naturally. It may work for some people, but if you are not happy with doing it, then don’t. The best thing you can do to get your ex back, is to do what comes naturally

If this means ringing them up to tell them how much you miss them and want to be back together with them, then surprisingly enough it might just work! It is quite probable that your ex feels exactly the same as you, and all you needed was a bit of time apart to think things through. In this situation it would never be a good idea to play games and mess around because you could cause problems and mess up your chances. Honesty is always the best policy. Playing hard to get and making people jealous is just going to have the reverse effect.

Don’t be hasty and assume your relationship is 100% over when there may still be a chance. Wait a little while before you head on down to one of the tattoo removal clinics to erase his name from your arm!

I feel amused when I come across people who criticize cosmetics as artificial and dangerous things. There is no doubt that we would love others to follow a natural and traditional lifestyle. However, very few individuals have the courage to adopt such a lifestyle themselves. I work in the media industry and understand the importance of proper presentation. I have seen individuals lose major contracts simply because they were not dressed properly for the meeting.

A friend of mine who decided to skip cosmetics found herself without a job because she was not looking professional and presentable. This may sound unfair and crude. However, this is how the world works and there is no escaping it. Would you be interested in watching a celebrity when he or she does not wear makeup? Such images are often posted on the Internet as humorous and funny pictures. Hence, it is important understand that we all are guilty of the hypocrisy of relying on beauty as a sign of goodness.

This is the reason why I use my Schwarzkopf Igora cream on a daily basis. At the end of the day, people like the fact that I look beautiful and base their decisions on this intangible option. When the world stops focusing on outer beauty and desires to focus on inner beauty, then perhaps we can get rid of these so called dangerous cosmetic solutions. Until then, they are necessary and the sensible option would be to make use of them in such a manner that does not cause any long-term damage to our health and skin.

Of course, relying on reputed brands and quality products will automatically reduce this risk. Hence, just ask yourself whether you really practice what you preach before criticizing all those individuals who use artificial cosmetics. You will find that everybody uses these empty words without really meaning.

Chess is something I never played until coming to London. In France we tend to play checkers (you call it draughts) more then chess. Yet thanks to a female friend of mine who shall remain nameless because she wants to, I have been steadily increasing my skill in one of the most strategic games I have ever played. Chess is something that I never considered as useful training tool for my mind.

Strategy

The game itself took me a few months to master – I’m French! And we’re more interested in our wine then in playing complicated chess matches. Yet after I finally one my first game against my female companion, I felt so elated I scooped her up in my arms and gave her a massive kiss! I do not think her boyfriend was too happy, but I was so buzzed at beating her in something she taught me, I didn’t care. Besides I apologies to her and she was fine with it.

I never realised how much foresight a good chess player has to have when playing the game. To win a match one has to think about five moves ahead depending on what strategy you employ. I also had to learn how to anticipate my opponent’s moves and counter them quickly before losing pieces. When I first started playing chess I didn’t realise how important it was to sacrifice pieces in order to win the game. I was greedy and wanted to hold onto all my pawns despite them being much less fluid around the board. My female friend gave me a good hiding and took virtually every piece on the board before moving in for the kill on my King. I lamented that I had made a terrible mistake and I was close to throwing the chess board across the room – that was how passionate I was getting about the game!

Chess Sets

Of course I managed to control my temper and after winning my first match soon realised that even when losing, the game can be immense fun. But I was to learn much more about chess. I never realised just how many different permutations of the game there were – chess, checkers, and draughts – but also how much craftsmanship goes into making a quality chess set!

Of course I learnt on a set that my friend owned. It was a beautifully realised porcelain board with magnetic balls implanted in the pieces. Moving my players around the board was akin to watching precious stones glide elegantly across an ice rink. The artistry of chess was becoming apparent to me quickly and I began to feverishly search for a decent chess set I could call my own.

Where to get quality sets

It turns out that there are a fair few choices when trying to purchase a quality chess set. Initially I tried out the local toyshops on the high street, but was generally appalled with what I saw – cheap plastic sets that would no doubt fall apart as soon as they were used more then once. Undeterred I then transferred my search online and began to realise that chess was bigger then I ever thought it was!

For a start it is now a recognised Olympic sport – something I’m sure many people are unaware of. What are truly amazing though are the numbers and types of different chess pieces and boards you can get. If you’re feeling a bit short on cash but still want a quality chess set then there are more and more really good sites cropping up online that sell quality sets for very affordable prices.

As for me, well I’m off to see if I can beat my friend again! She’s good, but I think I can take her.

Sometimes you just have to get on your soap box with things and let them ranting words fly. I have no idea why they call it a soap box, or even who the ’they’are, but what I do know is that not all London drivers are awful human beings. And now, my friend, I am going to prove it.

Just so we’re all on the same page, here is the common definition of a London driver (and no, this is not a joke):

He drives like a maniac. He awakens from his bed and is instantly angry at the world. “I’m gonna drive as fast as I can and cut people up all over!” he says. He means in his car, of course. This isn’t some serial killer. I wouldn’t know a thing about that.

So, he gets in his car and shuts his eyes, imagining all the carnage he is about to make. Then he drives through the streets without a care in the world – yes, no seat belt either – not giving a damn about the rules of the road that apply to everyone else!

if you’re ever in need of help, a London cabbie should be the first person to find

The reality is that this is simply not true. In the main. OK, so Martin from payroll software , one of the most placid people I know, is a bit of a driving maniac, but otherwise I see no proof in this stereotype. In fact, some London drivers are nothing but helpful. Especially the cab drivers…

When it comes to being friendly, cabbies beat bus drivers hands down (and I don’t think I am alone in thinking that…). This is for the simple reason that cabbies know the road and only have to pick up people they like the look of. This is very different to bus drivers of course…they can be a nightmare, and so would you be if you spent every minute of your waking life driving around hoards of strangers who you absolutely hated.

Of course, I could be wrong, and there are always exceptions – but that’s life, isn’t it? The main thing you have to remember is that if you’re ever in need of help, a London cabbie should be the first person to find. After all they’ve dealt with every kind of customer there is, which gives them an advantage if you’re being mugged or hassled in The Big Smoke (which doesn’t happen as much as some people might think, you should know).

On the surface, London seems just like a large city. Sometimes not even the nicest city. But delve slightly deeper below the surface and you’ll see this is a land of dreams where amazing things can and do happen. More importantly, it is our capital. The place where it all really started.

My personal belief of why London will always be the best is this: it is one of the few places in the UK where tradition and innovation meets and bonds. This magic combination should never be underestimated.

Another reason why The Big Smoke must never be underestimated is unity: when the London bombings happened and shook the country, in London, where it was all going down, strangers helped strangers out of the rubble. It had been a while since such a massive display of coming together – of fighting for the same cause – had been seen. It of course wasn’t what London needed – indeed no city needs terrorism – but the result was the kindness of people showing through from a mile away. This made me proud to live here; yes I was also afraid, but the courage that so many showed in those few dark days made up for it.

Just the other day I heard a man called rowan dartington talking about this. He was seated in the cafe with his back to me, and as I listened to his conversation with the man who was blocked from view, I thought I am proud to be here. London is a fantastic place.

Many people consider spam to be something that is just part of having an email address or a part of life however these views are absolutely wrong. While you may not realize, at times your actions may give spammers the ability to use your email to send useless form of information to the people in your contacts and others.

If you follow these tips you will be able to take down spam off your email and never ever worry about it again, it is like getting a permanent laser bikini hair removal done.

1. Never reply to a spam email. It doesn’t mean hitting the reply button alone but also not clicking any link that is inside the email regardless of what it says. If you hit the link that could be confirmation to others that your email address is valid.

2. Do not make it easy for the spammers. If your email addressed is published on a website it is more likely that you will receive spam. It may make sense to have your email address on a website but this should be something you may consider about before agreeing to it.

3. Do not forward the spam emails. If you get forwards from email addresses you do not recognize then never try to forward them to your friends, no matter how funny the information is. Because when you do this you are letting the spammers get fresh and valid email addresses of your friends to spam.

4. Do not post your email on a forum, email list or newsgroup. These type of sites allow your email address to be publically available thus making it susceptible to spammers.

5. Don’t trust chat rooms because spammers mostly use chat room to get your email address. Do not use your email address as your user name in any chat room.

If you follow these following tips and use anti-spam software you will be able to rid yourself of these headaches in your inbox.

London is a mesmerizing place, but more impressive than anything, I find, is the Thames…

I love it for these reasons:

1) Walking down the Embankment, I look out across the river and see something which you can only see here. The hustle-and-bustle of nature combined with the determination of mankind. I love it. OK, so the Thames itself is a bit murky and straight and uninteresting in places, but don’t overlook the view as the Sun comes up. There really is nothing like it when the Sun goes down either, casting a golden shimmer over the ripples as The Big Smoke quietens down for the day. Not that it’s ever really quiet, but I think you know what I mean.

2) The treasure the Thames has in it: there was recently a TV show about this. It showed a man wandering the bank of the Thames, searching for treasure. And he found it alright. Over the course of the show he uncovered all kinds of objects which were still in great condition due to the magical properties of the Thames’mud.

3) At night it is really quiet. So it’s not as quiet as the country, but truly, there is nowhere quite like it. Another great thing is how safe I feel walking the Embankment at night. The river seems to act almost as a protective force, shielding me and allowing my thoughts to wander away from boring stuff like what heating oil our flat needs, and onto wondrous thing like what I will do in the summer.
